Spring Cruise 2013 (6)

West Stockwith Basin to Clayworth Bridge 67

Weather: Overnight frost and strong wind made for a difficult passage. Lots of shallow sections.

Drakeholes Tunnel: Just after leaving drakeholes we came across an old man with two dogs who had fallen into the canal. The canal had ice on the surface this morning so it was urgent to summon help. The police, fire brigade and ambulance were needed to effect a rescue.

A convivial evening out in "The Brewers" at Clayworth with home cooked food. Avoided the Blacksmiths in Clayworth as the food prices would have required the boat being mortgaged again. The locals warned us of the prices in the Blacksmiths and advised us that the food in the Brewers was much better. We have learned over the years to accept local knowledge.

Wildlife: Roe Deer running through woodland.
